We wish to extend the sincerest of apologies from everyone involved in this noble endeavor, but the event is unable to run this year (2003) as they have been shut down by state authorities. Despite all efforts to meet state reguations, they were advised too late of "issues" for them to make the necessary corrections to proceed. Our condolences to all involved.
We were happy to catch up with Wendy , one of the organizers of the Maple Shade (NJ) Haunted House, that the proceeds benefitting the Maple Shade First Aid Squad.
this was it's 2rd year, the squad hosts a house of several rooms manned by volunteers, their numbers ranging from 20 - 35 a night. Wendy starts seeking volunteers for the attraction in August, small flyers looking for "Scream Team" members can be seen in the windows of local businesses. Per Wendy, "If it weren't for the neighborhood kids, I don't know how we could pull this off." So in reward for their work, members of the Scream Team receive certificates from local businesses for hair cuts, or karate lessons, etc. This year they intend to have mini "scare classes" to teach the kids to be better scare-actors. It really is a community effort, and one that made all of the local news stations and newspapers last year.
Each room is themed and decorated by volunteers as well... allowing the amateur haunter to showcase his/her own work.
Turn out was great, despite limited advertising, and somehow or another, people as far as Maryland came by to visit last year. In 2002 the event ran for 5 nights, this year they will only be open for 3, the 24th, 25th and 31st.
We look forward to visiting them this Halloween and hope you will too. And for our local readers.... they are always looking for adult chaperones for the event, please contact Wendy at 856-482-0937 if you can spare a few hours. It really is for a good cause. Happy Haunting!!
